Singapore IMDA Certification
Singapore is the benchmark market for Southeast Asian compliance. IMDA governs wireless/telecom, EnterpriseSG runs the CPS safety registration, NEA handles energy. Here is the complete path for Bluetooth/Wi-Fi products.
Certification Overview
Singapore's system is clear and efficient: wireless equipment under IMDA, safety under EnterpriseSG's CPS registration, energy under NEA. Three independent systems, each applied separately.
| Certification | Authority | Scope | Mandatory | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| IMDA TS | IMDA | Products with wireless transmitter (Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/cellular) | Mandatory | 4-6 weeks |
| IMDA ESER | IMDA | Simplified registration for low-power wireless | Mandatory | 1-2 weeks |
| CPS safety registration | EnterpriseSG | 45 categories of controlled consumer goods (e.g. power adapters) | Mandatory (specified categories) | 3-6 weeks |
| NEA energy label | NEA | Air conditioners, fridges, TVs, other energy appliances | Mandatory (specified categories) | 2-4 weeks |
IMDA Telecom Certification Details
IMDA (Infocomm Media Development Authority), formerly IDA, is the unified regulator for wireless and telecom equipment in Singapore. There are two paths:
IMDA TS (Type Approval)
Applies to products with wireless transmitters: Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/NFC/cellular modules. Testing at an SAC-accredited lab per IMDA TS specifications.
Applicable standards
IMDA TS series, radio parts mainly referencing ETSI EN (closely aligned with EU CE-RED)
Test items
RF output power, occupied bandwidth, spurious emissions, frequency stability, EMC
Key facts
| Sample quantity | 1-2 units |
| Timeline | 4-6 weeks |
| Certificate validity | 5 years |
| Local representative | Required |
| Factory inspection | Not required |
| Renewal | Every 5 years |
CPS Consumer Safety Registration
Singapore's Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Regulations require 45 categories of controlled consumer goods to be registered with Enterprise Singapore and affixed with the SAFETY Mark before legal sale.
CPS controlled products
Power adapters, chargers, electric kettles, fans, desk lamps, irons, hair dryers, extension cords. Quick rule of thumb: a 220V mains-powered household appliance is likely within CPS scope.
Applicable standards
IEC safety standards: IEC 62368-1 (IT/AV), IEC 60335 series (household appliances), reports from SAC-accredited labs
Key facts
| Sample quantity | 2-3 units |
| Timeline | 3-6 weeks |
| Certificate validity | 3 years |
| Local representative | Required (Singapore-registered company) |
| Factory inspection | Not required |
| Renewal | Every 3 years |
Certification Process
Confirm scope
Determine IMDA (TS or ESER), CPS, NEA certification types
Prepare samples
Samples + technical documents (block diagram, schematics, BOM)
Lab testing
Test at SAC-accredited lab per standards
Submit application
Local agent submits via IMDA/CPS online system
Review & issue
IMDA reviews, issues certificate, affix labels
Done
IMDA TS + CPS registration complete, ready for Singapore market
Singapore Plug & Label Requirements
Singapore uses the BS 1363 three-pin square plug (same as UK/Malaysia/Hong Kong). Mains-powered products must ship with the BS plug, and the plug itself needs PSB/Safety Mark certification.
