Vietnam Bluetooth Certification

Every Bluetooth device exported to Vietnam needs MIC/CR approval. Here's what BR/EDR, BLE and classic Bluetooth products must pass — and the band differences that catch exporters out.

Do Bluetooth Products Need Vietnam Certification?

Yes — always. Any product with a Bluetooth transmitter falls under MIC jurisdiction, regardless of power level or how it is charged. This covers TWS earphones, Bluetooth speakers, smart watches, earbuds, mice, keyboards and IoT devices.

Bluetooth typeVietnam requirementNotes
Classic Bluetooth (BR/EDR)MIC wireless + EMCFull radio testing required
Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)MIC wireless + EMCStill required — no low-power exemption
Dual-mode (BR/EDR + BLE)MIC wireless + EMCBoth modes tested
Products with batteryAbove + UN38.3Adds 2-3 weeks

Applicable Standards for Bluetooth

Bluetooth operates in the 2.4 GHz band. Vietnam tests it against its QCVN technical regulations, which are largely aligned to ETSI EN but with Vietnamese national deviations:

Test itemVietnam standardInternational reference
Radio RF (2.4 GHz)QCVN 65EN 300 328
EMCQCVN 18CISPR 32
Safety (if mains-powered)QCVN 22IEC 62368-1
Band differences: Vietnam's permitted 2.4 GHz channels and power limits differ slightly from EU/US. Products configured for other regions may fail testing. Verify your frequency/channel plan against Vietnamese regulations before submitting samples.

FAQ

Can I use my CE or FCC Bluetooth test report for Vietnam?
No direct transfer. Vietnam requires testing at an MIC-accredited lab. A CE/FCC report may reduce some redundant testing, but a Vietnamese test report is mandatory.
Is there a low-power Bluetooth exemption?
No practical exemption. Even BLE and low-power Bluetooth devices must obtain MIC approval. There is no meaningful power threshold exemption for Bluetooth in Vietnam.
Does the charging method affect certification?
No — MIC looks at whether there is an RF transmitter, not how the device is powered. USB-charged or battery-only Bluetooth devices still need approval. A built-in mains adapter may trigger additional safety requirements.
How long does Bluetooth certification take in Vietnam?
Typically 4-8 weeks. Products with lithium batteries add 2-3 weeks for UN38.3 and any local assessment.
