Vietnam Wi-Fi Certification

Routers, cameras, smart home, POS and IoT devices with Wi-Fi need MIC/CR approval in Vietnam. The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands have specific rules that differ from other regions.

Which Wi-Fi Products Need Vietnam Certification?

All Wi-Fi products — routers, smart speakers, Wi-Fi cameras, smart home hubs, POS terminals, IoT gateways — fall under MIC when exported to Vietnam. 5 GHz Wi-Fi is common in higher-end devices and adds specific requirements.

Key risk: Vietnam's permitted channels and power limits for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz differ from EU/US configurations. Devices covering unsupported bands or exceeding power limits fail testing. Always verify your channel plan against the current Vietnamese regulations — they are revised frequently.

Certification Process

1

Confirm scope

Identify applicable QCVN for your Wi-Fi device (65/66/18/22)

2

Sample testing

✓

Apply CR mark

Affix CR mark and Vietnamese label

Timeline: 4-8 weeks | Local representative: required | Factory inspection: not required

Common Reasons Wi-Fi Certification Fails

Wrong channel plan

Device configured for EU/US channels that Vietnam does not permit. A common and expensive-to-fix failure.

Power limit exceeded

Vietnam's EIRP limits differ. Devices tuned for other regions can exceed Vietnamese limits.

Outdated standards

QCVN revisions are frequent (some every 2-3 years). Certificates under old versions may not clear customs.

Missing Vietnamese label

The most common shipment-return reason. Labels and manuals must be in Vietnamese.

FAQ

Can a 5 GHz Wi-Fi device be approved in Vietnam?
Yes, but only for the bands and power levels Vietnam permits under QCVN 66. Verify your 5 GHz channel coverage against Vietnamese regulations before testing.
Can I use a CE or FCC Wi-Fi report for Vietnam?
No direct transfer. Testing must be redone at a Vietnam MIC-accredited lab. Vietnam recognises no external reports.
Does a battery or mains adapter change the requirements?
MIC approval is required regardless of power source. A built-in mains adapter may add safety requirements (QCVN 22). A battery adds UN38.3.
How long does Wi-Fi certification take?
Typically 4-8 weeks. Dual-band (2.4+5 GHz) devices and battery products add time.
