AI Smart Glasses Global Certification Solutions

Bluetooth and WiFi glasses with a camera and AI voice features — covering RF, SAR, privacy compliance and multi-radio co-location.

Product Certification Overview

AI smart glasses combine Bluetooth and WiFi communication, a camera, a microphone, a speaker and a lithium battery. Certification focuses on four areas: radio frequency, SAR (head-worn), camera privacy and multi-radio co-location.

Core Certification Points for AI Glasses

📡 Multi-Radio Co-location

Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz WiFi and 5 GHz WiFi can run at the same time. The FCC requires an additional co-location emission assessment, and RED requires an assessment of cumulative SAR effects when several radios transmit at once.

📷 Camera Privacy

The built-in camera is subject to privacy rules in a number of markets: the EU GDPR and AI Act, US state privacy laws (California's CCPA) and the UK PSTI Act. The design needs to allow for a privacy indicator light (lit while recording) and a physical way to block the lens.

📡 Multi-Radio Co-location

Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz WiFi and 5 GHz WiFi can run at the same time. The FCC requires an additional co-location emission assessment, and RED requires an assessment of cumulative SAR effects when several radios transmit at once.

Typical Test Items

📡 Radio Frequency

Bluetooth LE RF testing, WiFi 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz RF testing, multi-antenna MIMO assessment, co-location emission testing

📶 SAR + EMF

Head SAR (in the worn position), limb SAR (in contact during use), multi-band multi-mode cumulative SAR assessment, EU EN 62209-1

📷 Camera Privacy

Assessment of the privacy indicator light design, GDPR/PSTI compliance review, data minimisation, user consent mechanism

🔊 Audio + Safety

Speaker sound pressure to EN 50332, microphone performance, battery safety to IEC 62133, charging dock safety

Frequently Asked Questions

What privacy requirements apply to the camera?
EU: under the GDPR, a privacy notice and a data compliance statement are required. UK: PSTI Act requirements apply where the product has connected functionality. US: this varies by state; California's CCPA is comparatively strict. At product level, a physical privacy indicator light is recommended — a visible light is required when taking photos or recording video.
Is co-location assessment for Bluetooth and WiFi dual mode difficult?
The FCC requires an assessment of whether simultaneous multi-radio transmission produces new spurious emissions. Labs usually cover this with a co-location emission test, which adds 3-5 working days. EU RED and CENELEC EN 303 446 have a dedicated co-location assessment procedure.
How does certification for AI glasses differ from ordinary Bluetooth glasses?
The main differences: 1) a camera brings extra privacy and cybersecurity requirements (GDPR/PSTI); 2) WiFi brings extra 5 GHz RF testing and stricter head SAR; 3) a co-location emission assessment may be needed. Audio-only Bluetooth glasses with no camera go through certification much like Bluetooth earphones.
