TWS Earphones Going Global: Certification Across 6 Major Markets, Understood at Once

2026-06-03 · TWS Earphones · Global · ~5 min read

The same pair of TWS Bluetooth earphones requires entirely different certifications for different export destinations. Many factories only discover, when taking foreign-trade orders, that the certification the customer wants wasn't done — and the last-minute catch-up delays delivery. This article compares the certification requirements of 6 major markets side by side, at a glance.

6 major markets certification comparison

Using a standard TWS Bluetooth earphone (Bluetooth 5.3, 3.7V lithium battery, Type-C charging case) as an example:

Unified test strategy: one test supports multiple countries

The core tests for TWS earphones are RF (Bluetooth radio) and safety. The underlying technical requirements of national standards are highly consistent (all reference ETSI or FCC standards). The smart approach is to submit samples once, test once, and produce reports for multiple countries at the same time.

Recommended process:

1

Prepare samples

Prepare 2-3 extra prototypes (including fixed-frequency units)

2

RF testing

Test to the strictest standard; data can be used for FCC/CE/MIC/KC at once

3

Safety testing

Test per IEC 62368-1, then assess for conversion to national standards

4

EMC testing

One test covers FCC/CE/UKCA EMC

5

Multi-country application

Use the test reports to apply for each country's certificate separately

Notes: each market's "pitfalls"

🇯🇵 Japan

TWS earphones are DC-powered with a built-in lithium battery, so typically not under PSE. You can submit a construction-analysis letter to argue this. But MIC wireless certification is mandatory.

🇰🇷 Korea

TWS earphones fall under "safety confirmation" rather than "safety certification", so no factory inspection is needed. Do KC RF + Safety + EMC together.

🇨🇳 China

More complex: you need both CCC and SRRC. The lithium battery needs a separate GB 31241 CCC certificate. Overall lead time is longer (8-14 weeks).

🇬🇧 UK

The CE mark is accepted indefinitely, but it's recommended to do UKCA in parallel for new projects. PSTI generally doesn't apply to TWS earphones (non-connected products).
